Proud Home of Canada’s Olympic Champion
Making history
Breakdance entered the sports arena and made its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Our very own student, world champion B-Boy Phil Wizard, won the gold medal, representing Canada!
Phil became inspired when we went to teach our A Star Hip Hop Workshop at his elementary school. Phil then came to train with us and develop his passion, which led the way to all the life-changing opportunities and experiences he is having today!
Breakin’s roots can be traced to August 11th, 1973’s house party in the Bronx area of New York, hosted by the father of hip hop, DJ Kool Herc and Cindy Campbell, the first lady of hip hop. Our good friends DJ Kool Herc and Cindy Campbell are great supporters of our A Star Society. A Star Society is so proud to be connected to the honoured first people of Hip hop and Breakdance and to the First Olympic Break Dancer!
About Phil Wizard
Phil Wizard first experienced hip hop during one of A Star Society’s School Hip Hop Workshops. He then started breakin in 2009 under the mentorship of A Star Society, Boogaloo Academy and the Now or Never Crew with Jheric Hizon.
Phil Wizard, achieved the title of world champion at the 2022 WDSF Breaking World Championships. This accomplishment followed his second-place finish at the 2021 World Championships. Subsequently, he secured another silver medal at the 2023 World Championships.
Less than two months later, he claimed the gold medal at Santiago 2023, becoming the inaugural b-boy to earn the title of Pan Am Games champion. This victory also secured his qualification for breakin’s Olympic debut at Paris 2024.
Phil Wizard made history in January 2019 by becoming the first Canadian to clinch the Undisputed World Series title, emerging victorious at the Undisputed V Masters held in Morocco. Additionally, he earned the distinction of being the first Canadian to receive an invitation to the Red Bull BC One World Finals that same year.
In 2023, Phil Wizard won the gold medal at the WDSF Pan American Championships. This achievement came after consecutive podium finishes in Breaking for Gold World Series events, securing second place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before claiming victory in Montpellier, France.
